UPDATE: Six firefighters from Helston attended the call to a van on fire. Crews used two hose reel jets and wore two breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames.
An eyewitness, who made the shocked driver a cup of tea, said: "He said the van stalled as he came around the corner from Meneage Road, and as he I thought 'I must phone the boss', someone tapped on the window and said, 'get out you are on fire."
He added: "There was at least one loud bang as a tyre overheated and blew-up.
"The fire engine and police were there promptly and extinguished the fire. They have also washed down the road and sanded it."
