There are reports of a ship with engine failure being battered by huge waves as winds up to severe gale force nine just off the Manacles.
’Express 1’’ is a livestock carrier, it used to be a UECC car carrier that was laid up in the river Fal.
The ship is just outside the harbour limits and has put two anchors down, which Falmouth Coastguards say seem to be holding it in place. Adding there is no immediate concern.
The crew are trying to undertake repairs
The inshore weather is currently S-SE force seven to severe gale force 9, with it expected to turn W-SW dropping to force 5 to 7.
The Salvage tug Vortex is standing by, with one of the options being to bring the ship back into to Falmouth.
More as we get it.
