The coroner has opened an investigation after a man was found dead at his Penryn home on Valentine’s Day.

A 35 year old man identified locally as John Cotterill, pictured right, a member of door staff at Falmouth’s Club International, was found at his house in Jacks Close at around 3pm on February 14.

Police were alerted at around 3.15pm, and an ambulance also attended.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called due to concern for the welfare of an individual.
“He was found deceased, attempts were made to treat him but he was pronounced deceased a short time later at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious. We will be preparing a report for the coroner.”
The coroners’ office confirmed that an investigation was opened on February 20, and it is yet to be decided whether an inquest will be held.

Mr Cotterill had two brothers Ben and Andrew and the family were from  Constantine.
David Kitts wrote on John’s brother, Ben’s Facebook page the day after his death: “So full of life WHY? Going to miss you mate you will always be a part of us at the club its like losing one of my own boys. God bless you mate x Will never forget you”

Richard Badcock, who grew up with the Cotterills in Constantine and was at primary school with the brothers, said: “I don’t know what you can say, really. He was a nice chap and I don’t understand why he did what he did. It was a bit of a shock and just so very sad, so tragic.”
