Firefighters from three towns were called out to battle a barn fire in the Idless area near Truro this morning.
Both appliances from Truro were mobilised just after midnight and found the barn well alight.
Help was requested and an appliance from Perranporth and the water carrier from Helston were drafted in to assist tackle the flames at the fire in the barn measuring approximately ten metres by six metres containing hay and farm machinery.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed and used two high pressure hosereel jets.
By 1am a water shuttle was in place and Western Power was asked to isolate the power supply at the scene.
By 4am the flames were largely under control and the crews from Perranporth and Helston and one appliance from Truro left the incident, with the remaining appliance from Truro continuing to use hosereel jets to protect an adjacent barn.
One hundred bales of hay and straw were allowed to burn under supervision.
At 6am firefighters were still protecting the adjacent barn and allowing the contents of the barn to burn under supervision.
This is expected to continue through the morning.
