Youngsters from Mylor Bridge School showed off their sporting prowess at a recent into-schools' athletics competition.
A team made up of pupils from years five and six, and another from years three and four, competed at the Indoor Athletics UK event held at Penryn College. They were up against teams from the Penryn Partnership, which included about six schools from surrounding villages and both came out on top.
The two Mylor teams were made up of nine boys and nine girls each who took part in two track and two field events, which included sprints, relays and throwing basketballs and foam javelins. For the past two years, the years five and six team came second, but this year managed to go one better and win the heat, as did the younger children. They will now move on to the finals of the Cornwall Schools Games.
Their success has delighted year six teacher, Andrew Martin, and PE teacher, Viv Curnow, who had accompanied the children. "We had put in a lot of work with the children, teaching them about the events and they put in quite a lot of training over the last year," said Mr Martin. "Both teams did brilliantly."
