Support has been given to a mobile phone mast that should give St Keverne and Porthallow the same level of coverage as Coverack now has.
Parish councillors voted in favour of a 17.5 metre high column mast, with two transmission dishes and six ground cabinets, being placed on land at Trevallack Farm by the Harlequin Group, to provide EE coverage.
This would replace the equipment already removed from the Old Slaughterhouse at Tregellast Road.
Councillor Bill Frisken said: “We have finally, in Coverack, got mobile phone coverage and it’s wonderful. I think St Keverne and Porthallow deserve the same.”
However, councillor Michael Anselmi questioned whether, with technology moving so fast, the mast would soon become out of date – and if it did, who would remove it.
He pointed to Vodaphone placing mini aerials on top of telegraph poles now.
Mr Frisken believed this would only work in cities, though, as mobile coverage did “not go around corners very well” and therefore a tall mast would still be required in such a cliffy area.
