Helston Library is to reopen this month as the home of information in the town.
Its £181,000 refit will be unveiled on Monday, November 20 at 9.30am when the first customers will be able to use the facilities.
The building in the Trengrouse Way car park has been renamed Helston Library and Information Service to recognise its new role in the town, having also become the base for the One Stop Shop council services and soon Jobcentre Plus as well.
The redeveloped library will include a new children’s library, interview room and dedicated area for Department of Work and Pension support, which is due to relocate in the New Year.
The library and information service will initially be open from 9.30am to 5pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 10am until 1pm on Saturdays.
When Jobcentre Plus moves in early next year, residents will also benefit from new self-service access from 9am to 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Customers will be able to use the library, borrow and return items using the self-service kiosks and use the public access computers on these two additional days each week.
Julie Zessimedes, head of library and information services, said: "This is a really exciting project and has been an opportunity for Cornwall Council to work with partners to deliver a great library service and customer hub for the town.
"The refurbishment of the library will mean that the building will be a thriving community hub for library customers and new visitors alike."
During the refurbishment a temporary library service has been running from Issac House, on Tyacke Road. This will close at 5pm on Wednesday, November 15.
There are currently 2,525 "active users" of Helston Library - ie people who have borrowed at least one item in 2016 to 2017 - although it is open to all members of Cornwall Library and Information Service from any area, so the visitor number will be higher. It is hoped that this redevelopment will encourage even more people to use the facilities.
