Posting on Facebook Samantha Fowkes said: "Word of warning. The Penzance road between porthleven helston has be shut by police. Not sure why. Just be careful as some idiot flew down the road and nearly smacked into the car in front of us. Blue Vauxhall watch out for him as he tailgated my pregnant sister all the way from praa sands. Luckily he didn't hit us."
Diana Churchman said: "I heard the bang (thought it was a gunshot) then saw the smoke from Stopgate allotments."
The fire service said it received many calls reporting a vehicle on fire at the side of the road. On arrival the crews found the vehicle to be well alight and used two hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
