Black smoke filled part of the A30 when a car burst into flames yesterday evening.
The driver of the BMW managed to pull up at the side of the road before fire engulfed the front of the car.
Critical Control said it received "multiple calls" about the fire on the westbound carriageway of the A30 at Highgate Hill, near Summercourt, an area commonly referred to by locals as 'Hamburger Hill'.
A crew from St Dennis Community Fire Station was sent at 8.44pm, just as members were completing training.
