A former Helston town councillor has been sent to prison for 22 years after being convicted of sex offences against women and young girls.
George Dyer, aged 61, of Church Hill in Helston, appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentence this morniong after being convicted by a jury of three counts of rape, six sexual assaults of a child under 13, three sexual activity with a child and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
As well as sentencing him to 22 years in prison Judge Simon Carr also ordered that Dyer go on the sex offenders register for life and issued a restraining order.
There were five victims of Dyer attacked. He raped two women and three girls he sexually assaulted as children.
The actual sentences for each count were:
Ct 1 Rape: 22 years imprisonment
Ct 2 Rape: 22 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 3 Rape: 22 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 4 sexual assault of a child under 13: 4 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 5 sexual assault of a child under 13: 4 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 6 sexual activity with a child: 3 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 7 sexual activity with a child: 3 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 8 causing/ inciting a child under13 to engage in sexual activity: 5 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 9 sexual assault of a child under 13: 4 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 10 sexual assault of a child under 13: 4 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 11 sexual activity with a child: 3 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 12 sexual assault of a child under 13: 4 years imprisonment concurrent
Ct 13 sexual assault of a child under 13: 4 years imprisonment concurrent
Total sentence: 22 years imprisonment
Restraining order not to contact any of the named complainants: Indefinitely:
Sex Offender register for life
The offences mostly took place in the Penzance and Helton area going back 28 years.
Dyer had previously served on Helston Town Council.
