A Helston mental health group will welcome a new group leader this week, who will share her own personal experience of the illness after the death of her son Luke.
Your Voice Cornwall will welcome Jan Taylor to its group in Helston where she will share her mental health experience and its impact on families.
In 2018 Jan’s son, Luke Connolly, took his own life after struggling with his own mental health. One year later, Luke’s family organised a fundraiser in his memory, Lukefest, which now takes place every year around the anniversary of his death.

The event, which has raised thousands for mental health charities Man Down and Your Voice hosts live music events and entertainment for all ages.
This Wednesday (July 12) Your Voice founder Natasha will help Jan settle in at their ‘Snug Hub’ in Coinage Ope, Helston. The Snug Hub is a safe place to chat about emotions, feelings, and everyday life that is part of people’s mental health journey.
The group is open to all women ages 18 and over, with no booking required and refreshments available.
Jan hopes that she can give some time back to those who have helped her through the difficult times. She said: "I wanted to help, I know it's difficult to know who to talk to.
"Although I have no mental health qualifications, my experience comes from losing Luke.
"I'm not going to judge, it's a comfortable place for people to talk about how they are feeling."
Natasha Long, who founded Your Voice, said: “We’re really excited to have her knowledge, passion and empathy.
“And with Lukefest coming up, it’s great timing for Jan to be able to join us and do even more than she already does.”
Jan adds: "If there is anyone out there struggling, reach out, and don’t hold back.
"Speak to somebody.”
