The funeral of Barbara Scully, the wife broadcaster Hugh Scully, is taking place in Mawnan tomorrow.

Mrs Scully died at the age of 69 last Monday, March 9, just weeks after she was diagnosed with an undisclosed terminal disease.

Her funeral will take place at Mawnan Parish Church at noon, followed by immediate interment in an unnamed Cornish country churchyard within the sound of the sea – the final resting place she always wanted and where her husband has asked to be buried, with her, when the time comes.

Mr Scully, who is most famous for presenting the television programme Antiques Roadshow for 20 years, said: “I miss her terribly. She was not just my wife for 43 years but my best friend and soulmate. I don’t know what I will do without my dearest Barbara. I am devastated by her death. I will mourn her for the rest of my life.”

The couple moved to Mawnan in 1993 after Mr Scully spotted a house advertised in the Country Life magazine. They viewed it the next day and bought it on the spot.

Together they raised tens of thousands of pounds for the RNLI and Mawnan Parish Church through an antiques valuation day they held in their garden of their home, Treworgan.

Mrs Scully was the chairman of the organising committee and once established the garden fetes raised £15,000 each time.

She was also chairman of the Penryn Video Editing Club and film leader of the “Year in the Life of Mylor.”
