The initiative was inspired by the Great Exhibition of 1851 which provided a showcase for the greatest manufacturing, innovation and invention of the age. The aim now is draw attention to today’s businesses and to highlight the ingenuity and creativity of modern British industry.
Mrs Newton said: “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to see the work that Arcol does and to put them forward for the ‘Made by Britain’ project. “This is just one example of what businesses in Cornwall are able to achieve when inventiveness is combined with decent hard work.”
She added: “Arcol provides highly skilled employment to people in Cornwall and is introducing apprenticeships. “This is precisely the sort of company that will help get Britain back to work and I applaud Arcol’s achievements. “I will continue to support their nomination in the ‘Made by Britain’ project so that they can get the recognition that they rightly deserve.”
