The newly qualified teachers from Cornwall SCITT, Cornwall Teaching School and Applied Minds, were joined by friends and family at the ceremony held at Truro College, to celebrate their achievement.

The majority of graduates have already been offered employment in Cornish schools, with others taking up posts outside of the county. The ceremony was opened by Helen Argall, director of Cornwall Teaching School. Rob Gasson, executive headteacher of Acorn Academy, talked to the newly qualified teachers about the joys and responsibilities of supporting young people as well as enthusiastically promoting the merits of the profession.

Certificates were presented by Karen Ross, head teacher of Treviglas Community College and chair of Cornwall SCITT.

Alison Smith, programme manager, said: “We are intensely proud of our new teachers, who have been part of our success this year in retaining Ofsted Outstanding status and our ranking in the top five per cent of national teacher training for secondary. I know they will be having the same brilliant impact in our schools very soon.”
