Supporters of the Packet’s Save Our Station campaign are being urged to attend a public meeting tonight to help save Falmouth’s famous Coastguard station from being downgraded.
Under proposals put forward by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), the Pendennis Point facility could end up being run on a daylight-hours only basis.
At present, the iconic station is responsible for monitoring 660,000 sq miles of the Atlantic Ocean, and is the first port of call for any British sailor in distress across the globe.
Over the years, the work of the men at Pendennis Point has saved hundreds of lives, and the potential downgrade has caused an outcry from both local residents and sailors from across the globe.
Tonight’s meeting will be held at Tremough Campus in Penryn, starting at 7.30pm, and lasting for 90 minutes.
