Local youngster, Jasmine Matthews, from Redruth, is the first player from Cornwall Girls Centre of Excellence to play for England. She made her debut for the Under-19 team in a friendly match against Denmark.
Jasmine was part of the 28-strong squad at a training camp in Manchester recently who played two games against teams from Denmark and Ireland. She played as a forward in the game and said: “To play for England was a dream come true, I can’t really explain it, but all the hard work I've done over the years is now beginning to pay off.
“I have had great support from my family ever since I took up football and from my coaches. When you get to this level, the training is very demanding and the coaches expect a lot of you.”
Seventeen-year-old Jasmine plays her club football with FA Women's Premier League team, Bristol Academy, and is studying at Filton College in the city.
