Inspired by the London 2012 Olympics, BMX Dirt Bike Racer and JJB Sports employee Charlotte Green, pictured above, is hoping her Olympic dream will come true in four years' time, when the Games take place in Rio de Janeiro.
The 18-year-old, who hails from Threemilestone in Truro, is part of the Olympics Development programme, which should stand her in good stead to qualify for the 2016 Games.
Charlotte, who is currently ranked eighth in the world in her category, has an impressive track record; she was national champion five times in a row from the ages of 14 to 18 years old.
The teenager has been riding since she was four years old and took up the sport because, whatever her big brother did, she had to try out too. While he got bored of BMX riding and gave up, Charlotte took the sport very seriously and has gone from strength to strength.
Charlotte, said: “I love the sport; it allows me to meet lots of new people and travel the country. BMX racing has increased in popularity in recent years, and I really hope it continues in the same vein, gaining more exposure and followers.
To help fund her passion for BMX racing, the adrenaline junkie works at JJB Sports on Threemilestone Retail Park in Truro. The job allows her to learn about a huge range of different sports and she gets to spend time with like-minded colleagues, many of whom also play and participate in a sport.
Richard Cooper, store manager at JJB Sports in Truro, said: “We are very proud of Charlotte and follow her career closely. At JJB Sports, we're very passionate about sports at all levels, particularly at grassroots level. We support Charlotte with days off as much as we can to allow her to train and to compete in competitions; we're certainly looking forward to watching her competing in Brazil in 2016.”
